Quantified Self

I had the chance to get out and shoot the Quantified Self Seattle Show and Tell last week down in Belltown.  What is Quantified Self? Here's how they describe themselves on their website;

Are you interested in self-tracking? Do you use a computer, mobile phone, electronic gadget, or pen and paper to record your work, sleep, exercise, diet, mood, or anything else? ...

Quantified Self is a collaboration of users and tool makers who share an interest in self knowledge through self-tracking. We exchange information about our personal projects, the tools we use, tips we’ve gleaned, lessons we’ve learned.

I found all the presentations fascinating, esspecially the one below where Robby MacDonnell tracked his transportation habits, and made some really cool visualizations with the data.  Check out the rest of the presentations here.  And stay tuned, maybe some day I'll share my own self-tracking experiment that I just started!

Production Note: I usually don't have a problem telling if shots are in focus because the EX1s have such a sharp built in monitor, but it was REALLY hard to tell if the shots of the projector screen were in focus... so, appologies for the bluriness at times.

Blue Nile - Are You Man Enough?

I had a fun shoot for Seattle based online-jeweler Blue Nile a couple weeks back and here is the result!  Visit their facebook page for more on the contest.

And a big thank you to Sam Kellet, who did a great job as our host character.  I bet you didn't expect to get called back to Seattle for acting gigs when you ran off to LA did you Sam?!  I worked with Sam on this mockmentary a couple years ago and thought of him immediately after reading this script.

My Top 3 Videos of Storm Season 2011

Storm season came to a sudden end a couple weeks back.  The season went by fast and ended fast, so I figured I should take a second to highlight my favorite videos of the sesaon for 2011.  None made the splash that Brian Aglers "Stanky Legg" did last season, but it was a fun season nonetheless.

#3 - Swin Cash Grab - Fans and players all like Sue Bird Racing, but from a video perspective, my favorite of the mini-games is definitely Swin Cash Grab... in no small part thanks to Swin Cash, who may be more natural on camera then anyone I've ever worked with.

#2 - Sue Bird and Swin Cash Reflect on 9/11 -  I put this video together for the KONG broadcast of our last game of the regular season on 9/11/11.  It was a nice change of pace to be able to step outside of sports for a minute and be part of the larger national conversation about what the 10th anniversary of 9/11 means to people.

#1 - Playoff Intro Video - The playoff intro video almost always ends up being my favorite video of the year.  It's the kind of video you only get to make working for professional sports.  The over the top seriousness and intensity woud be, well, over the top in any other context.  Also, this was my first stab at rotoscoping.  I'm glad I learned how to do it, but at 6+ hours PER SHOT for the opening sequence, I'm not exactly eager to do it again.
