My production company, David Albright Media, is the Video Partner for the Seattle Storm WNBA Team. We produce all of their videos, ranging from in-arena entertainment to marketing videos to viral web videos.
Smells Like Money is an oral history documentary that I produced, shot and edited about the controversial pulp mill on Bellingham's waterfront. It won a Silver Telly Award, and an Award of Excellence from the Videographer Awards. It is currently for sale at Village Books in Bellingham.
The crowd has plenty of reasons to stick around, many of them uncommonly creative. There's Sue Bird Racing, where contestants step into ostrich mascot costumes and have to make layups before returning to squat on their "nest" of basketballs.
There's a trivia contest video of a famous movie, except with a Storm player inserted into the scene. This night's was "The Sandlot," with Bird uttering the familiar line: "You're killing me, Smalls."
"I can't believe he gets the players to do some of the things they do," Storm CEO Karen Bryant said of game operations whiz Matt Heuer, 29.
With the financial future of many WNBA teams still uncertain, it's time to get creative to get people in to the arena. The Storm is really making the right moves by taking chances with things like Sue Bird Racing and other in-game video series' that help create buzz around the games, and the team.
And check out the end of this bloopers reel to see the players' reactions to putting on the bird suits... it took probably 10-15 minutes before we could get everyone to quit laughing and start shooting.
Been fairly busy lately. Here's what I've been up to...
Allrecipes: The weekly web series that had me traveling the country is on hold for the moment, while Allrecipes focuses on developing some new shows. One of those shows is Shortcut Cooking, which I'm directing and editing for them out of the Allrecipes kitchen. The Allrecipes kitchen, by the way, is right above Westlake Plaza, so the Occupy Seattle protests caused us some problems on these shoots.
Blue Nile: On Veterans Day this year, Blue Nile help Veteran Timothy Strobel propose to his girlfriend on live TV, in the middle of Times Square. If you happened to be watching Fox News (...sorry I just threw up in my mouth a little) at the time, you may have seen it. I edited this video for them.
Shellie Hart: I grew up listening to Shellie Hart on KUBE 93's old school lunch, then got to know her through the Seattle Storm, so I was more than happy to help her put together a reel of her best on screen moments.
